Overview#

The MQ Power DCA-40 WhisperWatt is a 36 kVA (28.8 kW prime / 30.2 kW standby) portable diesel generator powered by a Kubota V2403-CR-T 2.434L turbocharged engine. It occupies the slot between the DCA-25 (20 kW) and DCA-45 (36 kW), packaged in a WhisperWatt Super-Silent enclosure rated 63 dB(A) at 23 feet — the quietest three-phase unit in the lineup.

The Kubota engine is the distinguishing feature. While most WhisperWatt models run Isuzu or John Deere power, the DCA-40 uses a platform that many equipment shops already know from Kubota-powered excavators, skid steers, and utility vehicles. Parts are widely available through Kubota's industrial dealer network.

No DEF — DOC + EGR only#

At the 2.4L displacement, Tier 4 Final compliance is achieved through a diesel oxidation catalyst and exhaust gas recirculation — no urea-based SCR system. This means no DEF tank to monitor, no DEF contamination risk, and simpler rental logistics.

Common applications#

  • Light commercial construction (electrical, plumbing, HVAC trades)
  • Equipment rental for contractors needing 25-30 kW portable three-phase
  • Outdoor events where 63 dBA noise performance matters
  • Emergency temporary power for small commercial buildings

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DCA-40 require DEF fluid?
No. The DCA-40 uses a Kubota V2403-CR-T with DOC and EGR aftertreatment — no Diesel Exhaust Fluid is required. This simplifies maintenance and eliminates a common logistics headache for rental operations.
How does the DCA-40 compare to the DCA-25 and DCA-45?
The DCA-40 fills a gap: 28.8 kW prime versus 20 kW (DCA-25) and 36 kW (DCA-45). It uses a Kubota engine rather than the Isuzu found in the rest of the lineup, offering a familiar service platform for shops already running Kubota equipment.
Why is the DCA-40 quieter than larger MQ Power units?
At 63 dB(A) at 23 feet, the DCA-40 is the quietest three-phase WhisperWatt — 3 dB lower than the DCA-45 and DCA-70. The smaller Kubota 2.4L engine at 1800 RPM produces less mechanical noise than the larger Isuzu and John Deere engines in bigger models.
