Overview#

The MQ Power DCA-15 WhisperWatt is a 14 kW prime (14.7 kW standby) portable diesel generator using the same Kubota D1503 3-cylinder engine as the DCA-10, tuned to deliver 40% more power. It runs at 64 dB(A) at 23 feet with 120/240V single-phase output.

The DCA-15 hits the practical ceiling for single-phase portable power on a small engine. Above this output, the MQ Power lineup transitions to Isuzu engines (DCA-20) or three-phase configurations (DCA-25).

Same engine, more output#

The Kubota D1503 in the DCA-15 produces 24.8 bhp — marginally more than the 24.5 bhp in the DCA-10. The additional generator output comes from alternator optimization and slightly higher engine loading, not a fundamentally different engine tune.

What's the difference between the DCA-10 and DCA-15?
Both share the Kubota D1503 3-cylinder engine and 16.4-gallon tank, but the DCA-15 is tuned to deliver 14 kW prime (vs 10 kW). The DCA-15 is also Tier 4 Final certified, while the DCA-10 is Tier 4 Interim. Choose the DCA-15 when your load regularly approaches 10-14 kW.
Can the DCA-15 power a full residential load?
At 14 kW, the DCA-15 can handle most residential loads including a refrigerator, lighting, sump pump, well pump, and a small window AC unit simultaneously. Central air conditioning on a 200A service typically exceeds what a single-phase 14 kW unit can support.
